Center Parcs Cottage Bispingen

Love That Design - Selected for publication
Concrete’s Center Parcs Cottage at Parc Bispinger Heide in Germany reimagines the classic holiday bungalow as a sustainable, modular retreat focused on togetherness and nature. Inspired by the original Van den Broek and Bakema design, the prototype blends indoor and outdoor living through a floor-to-ceiling glass façade, offering uninterrupted forest views. The layout connects two prefabricated modules—housing bedrooms, bathrooms, and a kitchen—via a central living room, which opens onto a private terrace and serves as the heart of the cottage with an oversized dining table and a reconfigurable modular sofa inspired by 1970s Center Parcs style.
Built with a hybrid of off-site 2D and 3D prefabricated elements, the cottage can be assembled in under two weeks with minimal environmental disruption. Its architecture is simple and unobtrusive, honouring modernist traditions while ensuring privacy through a staggered clustering of cottages that shield views and maintain serene surroundings. Every element is designed to immerse guests in nature while offering comfort and flexibility for modern families.
Sustainability is central to the design, with high-quality insulation, organic-origin materials, and a consistent wood-and-stone palette that blurs indoor-outdoor boundaries. Operating fully on electricity, the cottage uses photovoltaic roof panels and a heat pump for heating and cooling. Durable, low-maintenance materials and eco-conscious systems ensure an environmentally friendly stay, reinforcing Center Parcs’ commitment to nature and responsible tourism.
